Fans at The Olympic Club in San Francisco should prepare themselves for a great US Open showdown today. Last year, the script was already written for an imperious Rory McIlroy to win his first major and come back from his Augusta disaster.
Most golf fans would agree that McIlroy’s skill and flair was simply breathtaking. However, this year will be different. With Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk tied at -1 and two shots ahead of the rest of the field, it could become a two-horse race.
But… that’s too easy. With 11 players that are only four shots away from the leaders, much can change in the final round. Ernie Els and Lee Westwood (if he can sustain his form from the tee to the green) are just two of the contenders who remain on +2 but are in the running to take the lead on Sunday.
Let’s not forget, there are many fans who will still be supporting Tiger Woods, even with a poor performance on the thrid day and a current score of +4. There is no doubt that Woods has the self-belief to win his 15th major, but he will need to improve his own performance at the very least.
Either way, the final day looks set to be memorable. With Bubba Watson providing one of the most dramatic victories already this year at Augusta National, golf fans are waiting in anticipation for another final day to remember.
