Arsène Wenger: the Premier League manager of the season?

Arsenal’s 2011-2012 season has rightly been described as a ‘rollercoaster ride’ by all that follow the club. Arsène Wenger has arguably faced the most serious rumblings of discontent since his North London arrival in 1996 and the 8-2 loss against Manchester United seemed to encompass an Arsenal team that was in meltdown.

Yet, their 1-0 win over Manchester City showed a team that has come full circle and their immense recovery has made  Arsène Wenger my manager of the season.

Their performance on Sunday was dominant and they played with the same flair that has been characteristic of Wenger’s teams in the past few seasons. Mikel Arteta was the star player in midfield and his stunning shot from outside of the box demonstrated the confidence that Wenger has breathed into his team.

Arsenal have played with a renewed belief since their 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur but Wenger has always expressed his own belief in his players, even with their below-par performances. Even though Arsenal have not confirmed their place in the Champions League next season, they are now in great form to do so.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Brendan Rodgers are probably his main competitors for Premier League manager of the season but I think that Arsenal’s resurgence makes Wenger the standout candidate.

What do you think?

We shall see, I think that you could be right but Wenger deserves some credit for what he has done this season. Thanks for the comment.

Absolutely worth a mention as you have done. There have been several managers who are worth mentioning this season. This week even, Roberto Martinez is another name being repeated and Harry Redknapp is another strong candidate.

I think you’re right about Alan Pardew, great shout. It’s a good argument for Wenger though. They were in 17th and people were saying they were going down!
